MK Electric’s British manufacturing site granted ‘city status’

Mar 16, 2012
St Asaph - home to one of MK Electric’s two British manufacturing sites since 1963 - has been granted 'city status' to mark this year's Diamond Jubilee. It will become one of the smallest cities in the UK with a population of only 3,500. As part of a wider business park established in the 1980s, the site produces MK’s uPVC cable management ranges such as Prestige 3D, Ackermann Power Distribution Systems, Masterseal Plus IP-rated wiring devices and the MK Sentry Consumer Unit range, and is one of the major local employers, with over 170 employees coming from the newly declared city and its neighbouring towns.

St Asaph beat off competition from 22 others across the UK to win the "civic honours" accolade. It was one of the few towns in the UK with a cathedral never to have had city status.
As the UK’s leading manufacturer of electrical accessories, MK Electric employs approximately 450 people between its Basildon HQ and Southend-on-Sea manufacturing site ; plus another 220 in St Asaph, Denbighshire.
