MK Electric invests in UK manufacturing facility to transform production operations

Apr 20, 2012

MK Electric has recently invested £500,000 in its Southend facility, by installing a new state-of-the-art cleaning and powder coating plant that will transform its production operations, part of an on-going project that has seen a total of £1.56 million invested in the factory over the past two years.

The new production system incorporates technology which delivers higher quality paint finishes. These finishes can be applied to the full range of sockets, switches, dimmers, combination plates, Euro Modular front plates and connection units across three of MK Electric’s main decorative ranges – Aspect (screwless), Edge (flatplate), and Albany Plus (classic rounded edge). In addition, a bespoke design service allows MK Electric to respond more quickly to individual needs and global colour trends.

Increased production line speed - thanks to redesigned jigs and four-gun spray technology - will significantly reduce traditionally long lead times. The new system is also designed with sustainability in mind as the operation now requires 30 percent less power and produces less hazardous waste, thanks to increased efficiency.

“Given the company’s British heritage, continuing investment in British manufacturing is particularly important to MK,” said Jason Ng, Marketing Communications Specialist for MK Electric. “We’re incredibly proud to manufacture the majority of our products here in Great Britain, and of the advanced decorative service we can now offer thanks to our on-going investment.”

83 percent of the company’s products sold in Great Britain are manufactured in Great Britain, and MK Electric prides itself on superior manufacturing techniques which result in less than 0.001% product faults.
