MK Centenary: Royal Greetings

Feb 28, 2019

MK Electric is celebrating another milestone in its rich history with a letter from The Royal Household on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of its 100-year anniversary.

Miranda Hansen Lise, Royal Greetings Officer, writes: “Her Majesty was interested to learn about the history of the company and much appreciated the thoughtfulness in writing as you did. In return, The Queen sends her best wishes to you all for a most memorable day celebrating this most significant anniversary in the history of MK Electric by Honeywell.”

The MK Electric story, which begins in 1919 and includes the introduction of the ground breaking Multi Kontact Socket, the first modern light switch and the first 3-pin child resistant shutter system, features several commendations from The British Royal Family. The first came in 1979, when investment had hit record levels and MK was awarded the Queen's Award for Export Achievement.

In 1982, The Duke of Kent opened the former testing centre at Brunswick Park. At one point, the company even supplied the Royal Household and, as such, was awarded the Royal Warrant of Appointment by Her Majesty the Queen in 1986. The Princess Royal also delighted employees by arriving to open the company’s Basildon headquarters, the Arnold Centre, in 1992.

Ian Snadden, President of MK Electric by Honeywell, comments: “In an already momentous year, receiving a letter from Her Majesty the Queen is extraordinary. We are honoured to receive this kind greeting and would like to extend our gracious thanks to The Royal Household for taking the time to write to us.”
