MK ELECTRIC CELEBRATES BEAMA YOUNG MANUFACTURER AWARD WIN

Nov 28, 2018

MK Electric is celebrating today after its process engineer and former apprentice, Thomas Hunt, was announced as BEAMA’s Young Manufacturer of the Year.

Thomas was presented with the award in recognition of his achievements within MK Electric’s mould shop team, which included introducing a brand-new electric moulding machine and automated inspection camera. By optimising the new tooling and moulding machine, Thomas reduced the cycle time by a massive 35 per cent. This provided a material productivity benefit of 32 percent, which equates to millions more units produced per year.

Thomas was shortlisted alongside his peer, Tim Mann, who is also a former apprentice of the business and now works as a tool room technician at its factory in St Asaph.

The Young Manufacturer of the Year Award recognises people aged up to 25 who have excelled in research and development, process engineering, marketing, customer service or team work. Thomas was presented with the award during a ceremony on 28 November 2018 at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London.

Commenting on the win, Thomas said: “I am absolutely delighted to be presented with this award. Since I started my apprenticeship with MK Electric, I have not stopped learning new things, thanks to the support and knowledge of my mentors and peers, and I am honoured to be recognised for my achievements with such a prestigious award.”

David Knott, process development engineer at MK Electric, added: “We are immensely proud of Thomas for this impressive accolade. He is perhaps the most outstanding apprentice we have ever seen in our area of the business – he has a maturity far beyond his years, consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty, and has considerably increased productivity within his team in a short space of time.”
